ZENO CLASH
Graphics 9/10:
The graphics of this game are great, lots of different characters and creatures, and they're all very varied in appearance. There are also many strange and unique looking areas, showing the good, the bad, and the ugly (quite literally really) of this weird game world.
The only reason it doesn't get a 10/10 is because some of the character animations in cutscenes and stuff aren't always perfect.
Audio 8/10:
Some of the voice acting isn't all that great, but it was mostly for Deadra (the woman who follows you for most of the game). Ghat (the main character) also wasn't perfect, but good enough. Other than that, all was fine.
The music in this game is very fitting for the areas and situations in which they are used. Every area has it's own ambience and music, and most areas seem to have their own unique battle music.
Gameplay 8/10:
I believe this game uses the source engine (Half-Life 2, Left 4 Dead, etc), and it still feels like it, but this game is mostly melee combat (though there are a few guns lying about at times, and there are a few bombs/grenades). It takes some getting used to, but the melee combat is very good and fun. It can just be a little frustrating sometimes when there are 2 or more enemies with guns, and you're stuck with your fists. You can knock weapons out of their hands with strong attacks, but sometimes it feels unbalanced and unfair, but it's mostly fine, and the only times I had trouble with the difficulty, it only took a few tries to work my way through it somehow.
Storyline 7/10:
You are Ghat, fleeing after killing Father-Mother, the kind of leader of your family who are now out for revenge. Don't worry, not much of a spoiler, you find that out within the first 10-20 mins or something.
I think the story is well delivered, for what it is, but I feel most of the charm of this game is the places you travel through. Each area is so different, and kinda have their own story within them. Some areas I just wish we could have learned more about, but having some mystery behind it all keeps it feeling more interesting.
Lifespan 7/10:
It is a short game, maybe 3-4 hours long, but it's one of those games that's interesting and fun to play, so you might find yourself wanting to play it more than once.
After completion, you unlock the Tower Challenges. These are basically multi-floor challenges, in which you fight mixtures of enemies from the game, obviously getting harder as you progress upwards.
There are also the achievements, which are always nice to see, and add a bit more for completionists.
Overall 7/10:
I very much enjoyed this game, appart from the few times I got frustrated with the tough battles, but that's just me. Some people would do better than I did. It was a weird and wonderful experience that held my interest and kept me wanting to see what would come next.
Unfortunately it was short, but I kinda feel it was as long as it needs to be.
It was a memorable experience.
Thanks to Amig90 (YouTube name) for gifting me this game!
And that ends my review.
