Paul Smart the Virus Bloke: The RemakePart of the Virus Bloke Project The original Paul Smart the Virus Bloke was recently made available for free download ( www.megaupload.com/?d=GFKMRAF4 ) We have always been disappointed with most of the original game, and through 2009 we were thinking of eventually getting around to remaking it. Well that time has finally come!Since the start of 2010, I have been hard at work on the remake. Starting with noting down ideas on how to improve certain areas, and various other things, and as of yesterday (5th January) actual work has begun on the game! After gaining the powers of the Virus Bloke at the end of the (currently un-made) very first game, Paul's first task is to save the world, but he soon realizes that it's not only the present-day world that's in danger, but the past and the future too! Various people have travelled through time to destroy or take over the world, and now that the planets are aligned, you have the ability to chase them down through time and stop them. This thread will also be used to let people know of certain things the are updated and when. Virus Bloke Project © Piece of Pie Software

Preview ImageIf you've played the demo, perhaps you will remember how some of the areas make absolutely no sense, and look nothing like what they're suppose to... Mainly, the outside of the hut that Paul's staying in. What the F**K kinda garden is that supposed to be?? Well now it has been greatly improved and enlarged (beyond the screenshot below). Take a look, now you can clearly see that Paul's hut is in a kind of mountainous area, rather than a... big wooden dock?

Preview ImageAll gamers love achievements, right?? I know I do, so I couldn't not add achievements into this game! I want it to be as awesome as possible.

Yeah, sounds like a good idea. And any idea as to how much longer the game will be than the original?

Hopefully about an hour or something (not including time taken to get achievements), maybe 2-3 hours in total if one takes their time. Hard to say for sure at the moment, but we have ideas on how we can make areas longer and more fun.

You should have more different types of Achievements. Like killing that many enemies with this type of attack etc.

I would, but there's only so much you can do with RPG Maker 2000.

Hey Paul, If you ever want to use a diferent engine, then I sudgest these: Tourqe 2D: www.torquepowered.com/products/torque-2dIt dose cost $250 american, but it is a really good 2D engine. Once you learn how to use there scripting language, you can make any 2D game you wish. It also has an easy to use drag and drop editor. It also includes the source code if you ever wanted to edit the engine itself. The engine also supports multi platforms, so you can release you're game on PC, Mac, Linux and with special licences you can release you're games on, Iphone, Xbox 360 and Wii. Tourqe 3D: www.torquepowered.com/products/torque-3dThis is basically the 3D version of Tourqe 2D. There a 3 diferent licences, the first one is $100 american, which has allot of restrictions on selling the game and dose not include the source code, the second is $1,000 american, which dose include the source code. and finally the last one you need to discuss a price with Garage Games (the guys who made the engine) and is ment for actuall game development studios. Unreal Development Kit: www.udk.com/What more can you ask? It's the Unreal 3 engine, the engine used for unreal tornament, bioshock, gears of war, mirror's edge and what more is that it's 100% FREE!!! That's right FREE!!! The only downside is that you can't sell what you make unless you buy a special licence ($99 american) and even then you must pay Epic a small percentage of what you make. But still, it's a pretty nice deal. I curantly use It and it's one of the greatest engines out there. Get a good programmer, and you can make tuns of stuff with this beutafule pice of software. I curantly use the Unreal Development Kit. I'm a pretty decent level designer, but I am trying to learn scripting and 3D art. So if you ever need help with something, I'd be more then happy to help. I'm not saying you should use these engines, RPG maker is a decent engine, but If you ever want to do more, then I would sugest these (mostly Tourqe 2D and UDK).

Well, thanks for the info I suppose, but the main reason I use RPG Maker 2000 is because it's simple and easy to use. I can't get into 3D programs, and things where I need to learn some special language.
