...now might be a good time to start branching out a little. (This one is not scrictly limited to mapping, though.)
So about two or three days ago, I wrote a random concept document for a random game idea. Essentially, the idea was about a 2D hardcore platformer/brawler game with a twist: instead of having a health bar or lives, you have a Super Smash Bros-style damage counter that goes up as you get hit, and your performance is ranked based on your damage count upon completing a level! The game would consist of 25 levels spanning 5 distinct worlds, and each world would have a boss fight at the final room of the last level.
Interested yet? It gets better!
In the style of old-school platformers, especially Metroidvanias, the game would include powerups to aid you on your journey and secret areas containing what are known as Skull Trophies - collecting these trinkets would unlock extra game modes, such as Arcade, No Powerups, Random Enemies etc. Also, by completing all the levels of a world, you could replay those levels in Hardcore Mode, which would be basically a "sudden death" mode - take one hit and you fail the run.
The game would also include in all 25 achievements to unlock. While some would be fairly easy, most would be rather difficult to achieve and require replaying the levels a few times. There would also be a challenge for completionists, but I'll keep my mouth shut about that little detail.
While the game is theoretically still in the conceptual stage, I have already designed a few sprites and other art assets and composed half of a music track. I also quickly created a very, very, VERY unfinished prototype of the game in Construct 2.
This is not by any means a serious project yet, and I don't see it becoming one at least until I concept the game a little further and learn the basics of whatever program I end up designing it in. However, you might eventually see a rough prototype showcasing the basic idea of the game. This thread will be updated as things progress further. For these reasons, I also will not respond to questions concerning schedules or offers of help at this particular time.
