what games do you think are overrated, overblown or overly popular? post your top ten here
here is my top ten list. dont take any of this the wrong way if you are a fan of these games. many of these games i like but i dont think they deserve all the recognition and attention they have been given. just remember, i dont think any of these games are terrible.
10) star wars dark forces 2: jedi knight
many people consider this to be the best of the dark forces series. the only reason why, is because this was the first one to introduce a lightsaber. So, as you can imagine, all the fanboys went nuts over it and completely forgot all the contributions dark forces 1 made to the FPS genre. I found jedi knight to have too much tedious wandering around and overall it just seemed to be boring. jedi knight is my least favorite game in the series. although it is not a bad game it is certainly not the best.
9) halo
I actually like this franchise but i do think it has gotten waayy more attention than it truly deserves. There’s not much I can say about it that hasn’t already been said.
8) spyro 1
I love spyro. I love the classic ps1 spyro games. the three ps1 titles are considered by many to be the only true spyro games. alot of people, though, claim the first is the best and i dont understand why. the music is mediocre (with a few exceptions), the boss fights are pathetic and uninteresting, there are about 3 cutscenes in the entire game, there are no special challenges apart from the speedways (you just wander around levels) and it has one of the biggest anti climaxes of video game history. the next 2 games took spyro 1 and turned it into a beast of a video game. i cant even begin to describe how much they improved the first game but people still insist that the spyro 1 is the best just because of the fact it was first. those people are enough to earn this game a spot on my list.
7) metroid NES
Though it was a good game for the time, I don’t consider metroid to be anywhere close to being the best NES title. Many people think this is the best NES game but I just don’t buy it. The later metroid games were pretty awesome but the first one never impressed me. Maybe if I grew up with it I would feel different but im just not a huge fan of the franchise in general. I don’t know, im probably pissing a lot of people off right no so im just gonna stop.
6) guitar hero
This is a good game for any ps2 or xbox owner. It is one of those games that provide a revolutionary gimmick that becomes a basic console accessory. Now when I say “guitar hero” im referring to guitar hero 3. really, do we need anything else? You can download any song that you want off of xbox live (including every song from every other guitar hero game). So whats the point of these expansions? here are my thoughts on the rest of the games other than 3. The first one was a nice try but two was better. 2 was amazing but 3 just destroys it and it can get ever song ever made. These expansions (such as the new “Beatles” one) are a waste of time. People need to get over guitar hero already. Just play 3 and be happy.
5) old resident evil games
hey! guess what im from
"ah! here comes a zombie! too bad i cant see 3 feet in front of my face because the camera is stuffed inside a cupboard. wait while i bend my arms in perfect 30 and 90 degree angles to shoot at him while locking my legs and not moving. good thing all the controls are inverted, otherwise i might have actually killed somthing."
i know, i know, im going to get flamed up the ass for this but i seriously dont see the appeal in the early RE games. their intensity and difficulty is centered around poor controls, terrible camera angles and godawful video game logic. im sorry but i dont see how these games caught on though I am glad they did, other wise we wouldn’t have RE 4, 5, or the outbreak series.
4) GTA
I have played these games I can say that they are pure concentrated enjoyment for the first hour you are playing them. They are pretty fun for the first 2 hours. They are relatively enjoyable after 3 hours. By the fourth hour im kicking around a dead hooker wondering why I didn’t buy “rogue galaxy" instead. I think that as idiotic American consumers, we are attracted to games that demonstrate our culture. Examples would be GTA, sports games, racing games, war games and American RPGs (ick!). I can honestly say that I love my country, its freedoms, its scientific pursuits, respect for humanity and its ideals of equality.............but our taste in video games is fucking moronic and juvenile!!
3) gears of war 1 and 2
I never was a fan of this series. People ranted about how great gears of war 2 is and to tell you the truth, the game bored me. It got old so quick and it didn’t really show me much of what I haven’t seen already in FPS games. I would much rather play fallout 3 any day. It just shows how moronic we western consumers are when it comes to video games.
2) grand tursimo
It is............ the most...... Fucking............ Overrated...... Racing game…...…EVER MADE!! Don’t even get me started on this game! It is at the top of every racing game top ten list on the internet and is widely considered to be the greatest racing game franchise ever. No.. it is not!!!!!!!! These games are so boring!! There are no powerups, no weapons and no mindboggling or interesting levels. I can, off the top of my head, name 8 better racing games: burnout 3, burnout 4, crash team racing, speed punks, star wars podracing, Mario cart ds, any f-zero game, and vigilante 8 (though technically not a racing game). Grand turismo focuses on boring tedious realism and not high speed racing action and fun. There is almost no sense of speed in these games and they are soooooo boring. I cant even put into words how much I hate this franchise and how it doesn’t deserve any recognition by the gaming community.
1) FFVII
You guys should have seen this coming. To sum up my feelings on this game, let me just say this (and you can quote me)
“final fantasy 7 does for the RPG genre what naruto does for anime”
There you go. That’s the simple truth of this game. It’s the perfect game for those not looking for substance in a game but rather, overly commercialized shallow characters and a storyline with finesse but nothing to back it up. I could go on a huge rant about this game but im not going to…… yet
