Like most people, my childhood was scarring and uncomfortable.
However, it was from those years that I have some of my best memories. I still remember the monstrous black beast that was my old Sega Genesis, and my first experiences with 64-bit consoles years later. I still remember so many good games and have so many great game-related memories to saturate my unhappy upbringing.
So sit down with me and let's ramble incoherently about our earliest experiences, our greatest triumphs of olde, and our forgotten favorites from years past.
I know this thread probably belongs in the Video Games section, but this just seems more appropriate.
So won't you join my half-baked attempt to keep this forum alive? I think we've all got some interesting experiences and memories to share, and besides, it's not as though there's much else here to do that's intellectually stimulating (This really isn't either, but you see my point).

Well i must be in the minority as i really enjoyed my childhood, and did not think it scarring or uncomfortable at all.
I did not have all the consoles but i had a nes, snes, sega master system, n64, gameboy, and gameboy colour. My family did not continue buying consoles like after the n64, i never had a playstation 1 or 2, or any of the newer ones. We were more into computer gaming, the first computer we ever had was a second hand Amiga 500 which we got from a close family friend, with about over 200 games all in those floppy disks, after the Amiga days we got into PC gaming.
There are so many great memories from my childhood, like when my Japanese family friends would visit about every year while me and my older brother were young, that was the time when we were into playing the Amiga, there are so many times i can remeber playing games with them but i don't really know what the names of the games were, but we would just have loads of fun.
There was a Amiga game that i have been looking for over 5 years now, as we don't have it anymore but i did manage to find out what it was called, the game was Major Motion where you would be a car driving and avioding getting killed, and your car would turn into a boat once it reached water, it was viewed from overhead looking down, my brother and i would play that game for hours.
We would also really enjoy games like Theme park, Hole-in-One, Marble Madness, and tetris for the Amiga, even my dad got into those games. I could go on all day about this, but i have probably said enough for now.

That's all very interesting. I miss the Amiga, though I only had a scabbed husk which crashed constantly. There are a couple of good Amiga emulators out there, although I've never used any.
Thanks for posting in my empty thread! Something else interesting: I was digging about in the bargain bin the other day, and managed to pull out an SNES copy of Shadowrun! I damned near teared up at the sight of it. Made the last two days pretty interesting, I must say. Shadowrun reminded me of Baldur's Gate II, which reminded me of Planescape: Torment.
And now I'm stuck in isometric RPG land. I'll be normal again in a few days, gentlemen...
Anyway, I also got my old NES working again last night, after an hour or so of cleaning it out, checking the wires, and beating it senseless. Usual fare. When I unscrewed the thing I jumped back to see a small army of dead insects inhabiting its interior. Mostly cockroaches (I really hate California), but a few small spiders and about a half-dozen tiny little beetles.
Played Megaman 1 and 2 in marathon style, before retiring to the late hour. After I get off work today I'll marathon Castlevania III (which I STILL never finished!) followed by a good BGII reintroduction.
KotOR is a great game too. I'll have to toss it in the drive after I get my kicks out of Baldur's Gate II. After that I'll probably break out my Genesis and PS1 from childhood, hook the old mangy bastards up and blaze through my game library.
