I got this game recently as a present from my sis i found it exhilarating to say the least
Graphics 10/10:
The graphics are the same from the old snes game and it shows that the old chrono trigger graphics were superb. The detail the characters are shown right down to the bandanna on crono's head, they are also funny in circumstances, the first time you see crono shocked with his arms up in the air made me laugh and it looks good next to todays rpg games.
Audio 10/10:
The audio in the game is really good, it gives you the nostalgic feel of the snes era and remind you of classic snes games it puts you in the mood to play the game. The audio for the anime cutscenes are a spectacle to enjoy to.
Gameplay 8/10:
The gameplay for Chrono Trigger is quite confusing and it takes quite a lot of time just to figure out what to do.If you miss what someone said or you didn't understand it you can be stuck on it for hours, for example when you first meet doan in 2300 AD he says that they really need to have food but a massive robot is guarding it and i thought you had to sneak past it not fight it.(Stupidity on my part)But apart from that it is excellent.
Storyline 7/10:
Why is it a seven? Well the reason is because it involves time travel and time travel is very confusing to plan out because if you do one thing wrong in the past it messes up in the future that is why there are 2 magus's in the game (3 in the DS version 0.o) and in 600 AD where marle is mistaken for queen leene if leene died the line of asendents would end there and marle would not exist. However it does try not to mix in 2 close together time periods there split by hundreds to thousands of years so it does remedy some confusing aspects.
Lifespan 10/10:
It is replayable so much you can replay it 50 times in a row. There is so many sidequests you can do and in the DS version you can get the secret endboss. There is even a mode so you can replay the whole game to get 13 different endings, it is the most replayable game i've played and you really cannot say you have completed the game until you have unlocked everything.
Overall 10/10:
This game was remarkable the first time it came out improved itself when it got re-released on PlayStation and has been perfected with the DS version, it's a marvel to behold because the amount of attention to detail it was given made it a terrific game, the graphics are remarkable, the audio I love it (especially frogs theme), the gameplay is very good and the storyline, while very confusing just puts you in the mood to play the game time after time because you can change the future in small ways or leave them the way they were.
If you see a box in your nearest game shop that says Chrono Trigger DS get it and if you dont have a DS get the PlayStation or SNES version because all of them are incredible.
Phew probably the longest review i've ever done :p
